I didn't know about the qui-binary arith, and the 1401 was the second computer I programmed, back when. I love tracing details down to actual transistors on particular cards!
This does tempt me to spend even more time on computer history in the "computer architecture and organization" course I occasionally teach, though; I should probably displace something else if I add much from here.
