What is a PRAWN warrant, Kevin?

The acronym PRAWN in the term PRAWN warrants stands for paperless re-arrest warrant network. In Connecticut, any law enforcement officer can make an arrest on a PRAWN warrant.

Unlike a conventional "hard copy" warrant, the officer does not need to be in possession of the physical paper warrant to serve it. PRAWN's are usually used for less severe charges like Failure to Appears. Prawns can be served by any Connecticut agency that comes into contact with the subject on a traffic stop, criminal investigation etc. It saves a lot of manpower when an officer from Bridgeport comes into contact with someone from Hartford with a PRAWN warrant Instead of Hartford Officers driving to Bridgeport to serve the warrant ang bring the person back to Hartford for booking, Bridgeport can serve the warrant and make the arrest.

Hopefully that didn't confuse you more
