you are probably correct, but that is an issue above HPD. If they were selling untaxed cigarettes, I would think the state could immediately pull their sales tax permit. I don't think they could operate without that legally, not that they have any intention of running a legal business

Lord knows what other things he was involved in, like buying and reselling stolen items, etc. Would also be interesting to find out if he was selling things which have expired, which seems to be for one reason or other something which happens to often in small store fronts.

Go for it HPD! Help us reclaim our community!

90% of bodegas in Hartford and all over the state of CT were funded with drug money. Most of these bodega owners are former drug dealers or still are current dealers. I'm surprised the FBI has not picked up on this. This has been a practice for over 25 years since Dominicans started buying every bodega in Hartford. I would say about 95% of bodegas in Hartford are owned by Dominicans even on Park st which use to be a prominent Puerto Rican owned area for small businesses. Dominicans have taken over most conevenience stores in Hartford including all Ctowns and Bravo supermarkets in Hartford funded by the same drug money. They all sell beer after 9pm and they all sell hard liquor without a permit and all sell loose cigarettes known as loosies. In my nieghborhood I have about 5 or 6 bodegas within a 4 mile radius that all these items can be bought at any time of the day or night! Oh yeah also illegal presscription drugs!!!
