I just got home from working a polling place all day. Exhausted, but it's a really good kind of tired!
We processed a total of 770 ballots, a record for our crew. It was wonderful to see all the new AND old voters, people who hadn't voted in decades, and parents with their young adult children! One fellow drove home from Chicago to vote in his home poll in L.A.!
We were swamped all day, but nearly everyone was extremely patient and polite. I was very happy when we got done closing the polling precinct (counting up and pre-processing of ballots) within 1.5 hours after closing! Phew!
Thanks America! We can all work together and help each other, it's a great thing!
I went to vote and handed the worker my voter registration card and she said "That's it. No need to get your ID out. It's hard to get one of these."
Maybe she's right (supposedly, they're supposed to check the registrations against the INS database and DMV) but still, without my ID, I could have had my Russian or Polish friends go and vote for the fun of it. Or if the person had deceased, they could have also voted.
Yes, it was fun and all but I wonder if voting is becoming more like a soccer game where we cheer for our team and about as thought provoking.

It's over and I am soooo HAPPY. I thought I would get excited but instead I relaxed and felt peace. And...I have already recieved a thank you note.

I voted yesterday in Miami, Florida. I was so excited when one of the poll workers spoke to me in English!
