Maine just ended a 38-year run of same-day voter registration, during which it was reliably first, second, or third in voter turn-out naitonwide.

GOP legislators pushing for the elimination of same-day registration could not point to a single instance of its abuse, and the state association of town clerks who were supposed to be clamoring for the legislation because of all the paperwork it entailed came out against it.

50,000 voters registered at the polls in '06, '08, '10 -- I guess too many of them voted the wrong way.
