"Fifty-eight percent (58%) of U.S. voters say a child born to an illegal immigrant in this country should not automatically become a citizen of the United States,"
So what's wrong with that? If you are here illegally then why should your offspring just tada be a citizen.
As the courts have showed, there's a lot of leeway as to what constitutional amendments mean. The courts have said for instance that children born of foreign diplomats or of a hostile enemy force are not citizens.
I think if this law went before the Supreme Court today, the notion that if you are in the country illegally and give birth that the child was automatically a U.S. citizen would be struck down.
I believe that decision will be made sometime in the next few years.
I wonder how many of the people who are against the 14th Amendment would have their citizenship revoked because at the time of one their ancestor's birth, both parents were not U.S. citizens?
I'm guessing down the line, quite a few.
Ahh, gotta love our long tradition of hatred for immigrants in this country. Melting pot my ass.
