So what's wrong with that? If you are here illegally then why should your offspring just tada be a citizen.

As the courts have showed, there's a lot of leeway as to what constitutional amendments mean. The courts have said for instance that children born of foreign diplomats or of a hostile enemy force are not citizens.

I think if this law went before the Supreme Court today, the notion that if you are in the country illegally and give birth that the child was automatically a U.S. citizen would be struck down.

I believe that decision will be made sometime in the next few years.
