How very strange! It used to be commonplace to have your tonsils removed when I was little [many decades ago in Europe] but attitudes have changed and it's quite unusual these days. Although I am a little out of touch with current trends.

There is actually a growing body of research supporting the theory that much of the increase in ADD/ADHD diagnoses can be explained by chronic sleep restriction and disruption due to lifestyle or sleep disorders (in this case, tonsils affecting night-time breathing). Although it seems counter-intuitive at first, one of the symptoms of over-tiredness in a child is hyper-activity, in addition to the more intuitive difficulties paying attention and learning new information.
