Another day, another well-written, well-researched article in which we beat our heads bloody against the brick wall of denial.

I'm a mother of three, including an almost 5-yr.-old boy recovering (over the last 3 years) from autism and other symptoms of mercury poisoning, including "lost" and slurred speech, severe fine and gross motor delays, and anxiety/obsessive-compulsive disorder.

His twin sister has asthma -- intermittent -- but suddenly severe when it strikes. There's no family history, no one smokes, no pets, etc. It's "baffling" to the doctors, but not to me, because I know it's related to all the mercury that was/is still in her system.
I'm a faithful reader and a big fan of yours -- and I don't say such things lightly!

May we look forward to some more personal postings again? I would love to know how Chandler is doing these days, as well as the rest of the family.

It would also be wonderful to see first-quarter 2006 figures from California, as soon as they are available. (Yes, I am aware that we are still living through that time period, but there I go again betraying that crazed sense of urgency that only parents of affected children seem able to feel. . .)

I know it's greedy of me to want more from a mother still in the trenches; for my own part, I'm listed as a Rescue Angel with Generation Rescue, but can't even imagine keeping up with a blog.

More power to you, Ginger Taylor -- you *rock*!!

Amen. All I can say is amen. You called it. You are right on the money. I looked at those articles and had almost the exact same thoughts. I feel like people look at the problem and see everything but the truth. Thanks for your post; it was a breath of fresh air.

So how do you explain me? I'm male, on the spectrum, and in a few months I'm getting paid (by the university I'm going to!) to go after my PhD.

But I guess I'd be better off being chemically castrated with Lupron, or getting potentially lethal chemicals injected to remove something there's no evidence is there, or maybe just being baked to death in a sauna, right?

After all, I'm on the spectrum - how can I be a success?

If the cause of the sudden increase in autism is metal toxicity, what caused all the cases of autism before? And what if metal poisoning is not the cause? What if it is lack of vitamins/nutrients in diet, growth in the use of baby formula, induction just before labour/birth? Or what if autism has actually always been at this level but because everyone is so much more conscious of what autism is and how to define it, children are being recognised as autistic and being diagnosed more. The truth is out there, I just don't believe we really know the reason.

good post Ben. No one has been able to tie mercury to Autism. I would hate to think that we concentrate so hard on metal toxicity that we ignore other possible causes. One thing I do believe is early diagnosis is critical and makes a substantial impact in the child’s prognosis. I read a helpful article on early diagnosis of Autism here. Hope it helps.

Love your blog. Please check out the reversingautism yahoo group. Andrea, the host, has lots of brilliant inexpensive ideas that have helped many. Even parents who have seen no results after many years and lots of money spent on different therapies, have found help there. Take care.
