Anon. 0615, lock sks bolt to the rear, insert stripper clip into guide, press FIRMLY untill all rounds are in the mag,pull bolt to the rear and relise to chamber the first round. With practice you can get off as many rounds with an sks + 10 round mag as you can with a AK + 30 round mag. Your rate of fire is limited by heat, not mag size.--- PS the 30 round after mkt. mags. for the sks are USELESS, they make one of the best carbines ever made malfution badly. IMO the SKS 1945 is far and away the carbine class wepon ever made.

Regular readers will recall that I am an advocate of having all your ammo combat packed in stripper clips, bandoleers, ammo cans and crates, especially for the SKS. Previous posts such as "Packaging is everything."-- Stripper clips, bandoleers, magazines, ammo cans and crates; and How NOT to load an SKS; and Strippers. "Juden haben waffen!" have set forth my thoughts in often excruciating detail.
Used to be, back before Bill Clinton cut us off from cheap ammo out of the PRC, you could get all the ammo you wanted already packed in stripper clips. Alas, no more. I would hate to think how many thousands of rounds of loose 7.62x39 I have loaded in SKS stripper clips by hand, prepping them for further packaging in 7-pocket USGI bandoleers, M19A1 "thirty cal" cans and ComBloc wooden crates. Now there is a DIY SKS stripper clip speedloader that, thanks to a reader, I just discovered and it looks GREAT. Check out the videos below.

I'm going to make up some of these when I get a little time and money next year. I suggest that anybody with an SKS do the same.
