Jane - I don't have asthma but really bad allergies. I use a Wal Mart allergy pill. It's a little tiny hot pink pill with the Equate brand on it. It works wonders for me and doesn't make me sleepy. You might try it. The others all make me so drowsy.

Keep up the good work.

Hi Jane, that asthma is after you again. I take generic Zyrtec everyday because I work outside all the time. It is a 4th generation antihistamine and really good for outdoor allergies. Do you see an allergy specialist? The tupils are gorgeous. xo, Olive

Love your tulips, and forsythia is just so pretty! What a pretty hood you have. I have the plain old white metal one from the hardware store. But it serves its purpose. I take a Zyrtec every morning when I take my other medications. I've done it for about a month or more, and it has been a life saver for me. I still sneeze some, but don't have all the other symptoms. We've had sooooo much pollen this year. Hope you have a fun weekend!

Try some local honey. All natural, and it builds up immunity to the pollen, etc. in your area. I also found permanent allergy relief by removing wall-to-wall carpeting, especially in the bedroom, no dryer sheets I use the dryer balls that bounce around. No air freshener plug-ins either. I found relief with Zyrtec at night. I also took a prescription antihistamine that knocked me out in about 1 minute and I slept for 7 - 8 hrs.! Don't remember the name of it, it was over 10 years ago. xo

Your garden looks gorgeous! So colorful. I think you must be a couple weeks ahead of us, I have some daffodils blooming but not much sign of anything else.
As for allergy meds, I take allegra. It's the first thing I have tried that actually works...and I went to an allergist. He gave me a steroid nasal spray that helps me breathe.

Kitchen looking awesome Jane - love the hood - he was a good carpenter. My cabinets go to the ceiling so can't display anything........but also don't have to dust up there, ha! ha!

Pretty tulips - I didn't plant any this past Fall so am missing them. They do not perennialize here as it doesn't get cold enough in Winter.

Hope you get to rest soon and take care of your asthma/allergies. Our Jasmin has started on Allegra for hers - it's prescription strength and was recommended by a pharmacist in our family. Good deal on it at Costco right now ($6 off) if you're a member.

Happy weekend dear - we're off to PA to see Bob's mom (94) who has been scaring the pants off us this past week! Hospitalized for heart problem and pneumonia, then had a stroke on Mon. while in the hospital. Amazing that she's rallied from all that and may even be back home by the time we get up there!

Best to Alan from us both.
Hugs - Mary

Sorry about your asthma. This has been a rough year for sure. It took over a month to get over my pneumonia and then I went to see the Veggie Tales Live with my daughter and caught some awful bug from one of the little nose picking, bacterial terrorist attendees! LOL!
My tulips have not bloomed yet. I'm not sure if they will. I planted them in November! They are growing...just no flowers. :( If yours have bloomed I think I may not get flowers this year...since we live so close to each other!
I hope you feel better,my friend!

Hi,
Your tulips look so pretty. They look so much better in a mass planting like yours... than a few planted here and there.
I suffered with allergies when I was a kid, but soon outgrew them. My youngest son inherited my allergies.
Your oven hood is beautiful..what a craftsman.
Have fun this weekend...Balisha

I love all your tulips! Oh my goodness, they are so beautiful. I have never planted any bulbs, so no show of color around here yet. Your cabinetry and stove hood are also beautiful; you had one heck of a good carpenter. Allergies...yeah, mine are really bad right now too. It's the tree pollen right now. The only med that works for me is Allegra D. But make sure it's the "D" kind, not just the regular Allegra. The "D" is the key, cuz it's a decongestant. You have to ask the pharmacist for it - it's behind the counter. And it's expensive, but worth it.

Your tulips look lovely, Jane! I have a neighbor across the way who has some up around a small weeping cherry and it makes for such a pretty view. I've saved some of the bulbs from my grocery store tulips and I'm going to plant them in the ground in the Fall.

I started with seasonal allergies after I turned 40. I don't have asthma and I have been taking Claritin, which I'm hoping is helping a little bit. I keep saying it could be worse if I wasn't taking it! I tried to head it off by starting to take it early this year, but I don't think it made a difference.

Everything is coming together so beautifully, Jane.

Your garden looks WONDERFUL! With consideration of the recent bouts of snow and cool weather that the Midwest has endured, I am very impressed!

I LOVE the cabinetry in your home!
The space above the cabinets looks very French!

I have been lucky with allergies so far...I think it's because the pollen has been held hostage by the rainiest April in Pacific Northwest history. We do well with Zyrtec. We buy the Costco generic.

I wish you a lovely, productive and stress free weekend!

Hi Jane, I'm a newcomer to your blog. I happened to read this post about your asthma and allergies. I suffer from both and just wanted to reach out and share some information I've learned that really changed how I manage both. First, I learned that although I often huffed and puffed around the house with asthma, a specialist I saw sat me down and read me the riot act. "Whenever you are experiencing actual asthma symptoms", he said, "you are ACTIVELY damaging your lungs irreparably." Huh?? He explained that the inflammation that causes asthma symptoms actually thickens the lung tissue, causing it to lose its elasticity over time. He was very clear: "you must manage this condition until you are a-symptomatic-- no ifs, ands, or buts." So now, while I still have what is classified as 'chronic asthma', I am completely asymptomatic. I find the RX Singulair (10 mg every evening) works for me now that I no longer have cats, but have used Advair and rescue (Albuteral) inhalers in the past when needed. He also counseled that a Pulmonologist might minimize the damage asthma does, because that individual treats such severe disease, so an Allergist tends to give asthma the treatment it deserves.

I also read an article in the New York Times Magazine years ago about the process of bringing a drug through the FDA approval process, and the drug they used as a caase study was Claritin. I was shocked to learn that even the manufacturers of that drug were aware that it won't work at all in over 30% of people who use it-- just due to their personal body chemistry. I am knocked out by antihistamines so I use Allegra, which doesn't make me sleepy and works pretty well when I need it. Taking it BEFORE symptoms appear also helps.

I wish you the best of luck. But, please, don't tolerate even minor asthmatic symptoms!

Hi Janie... your tulips are just beautiful and so is your forsythia... you are right... you HAVE to bring some branches inside... I love your kitchen!... the tops of your cabinets look great with all of your treasures up there... love the bee skep... and your range hood is gorgeous too... my allergies have been just awful!... the only relief I can get is to keep soaking my face with a warm washcloth... antihistamines make me way too tired so I never take them... I honestly think the only thing we can do is wait out all this pollen and such... hope you feel better soon... I am not a pill person, so another thing I do is sip herb tea... you may want to try that, at least it is soothing to your soul... thanks for the good luck wishes on my new Etsy shop... I am excited to add alot more things to it... just something I have wanted to try for a long time... enjoy your weekend... xoxo Julie Marie

All of your flowers are really beautiful. You're lucky to have so many colorful tulips in bloom at one time. I haven't had good luck with those. Your cabinetry is very pretty as well. I wish I had a hood over my stove like that. I have a microwave. Hmmmm....maybe in my next house. LOL! Sorry you're suffering from allergies. I do too. I use Zyrtec or Claritin. I have the same problem though with the grogginess. I'm either sleepy or wired at night if I take the non-drowsy formula. There doesn't seem to be a happy medium. Just have faith that it will end eventually!
