The speed is really an issue. I also tried this on the Salto emulator, (which requires doing "compress st80.dsk" in a linux system), and it boots smalltalk, however the mouse seemed to be stuck highlighting some text so it appeared unusable.

You will need to be extraordinarily patient in Smalltalk - response to selecting a phrase will eventually arrive but it is easy to believe the system is frozen.

only works on Windoze? since it’s made on C#, how fine does it run on Mono, on GNU/Linux?

I tried firing up st80.dsk, that loaded. I then did "Bootfrom small.boot", that worked, showing me a Workspace, a Browser and what looks like a Workspace in the top left corner with a Welcome message in. Most things in smalltalk seem to work except for the final method selection in the Browser, which eventually (after about a minute) coughs up a new window, with a title of "no routing tables", and a method-selector of "Etherworld->wakeup".
I'm not sure where to take this, as xmsmall works okay, and I was wondering if the missing smalltalk sources file could have something to do with the error I'm having. Any clues for a newbie? Most of my smalltalk experience has been on the far later Squeak.

st80.dsk actually contains a version of Smalltalk-76, despite its label. Also, that one has problems accessing its sources file. @kenshirriff maybe fix the screenshot caption?

xmsmall.dsk works much better, including sources access.

I'm running xmsmall successfully on a MacBook using ContrAlto-mono, after installing MagicPrefs for emulating the 3rd mouse button with the touchpad. Can't figure out some keybindings though (e.g. open colon ⦂ and implication arrow ⇒).

I am using the xmsmall disk. When I downloaded it the disk had 3 pages free. I was trying out smalltalk and I got a message stating that smalltalk needed some more space. Some disk activity occured and then it quit to the executive which showed 0 pages free and I got a warning about the disk being full. Is there a way I can get more space somehow. I assume not as the only files on the disk seem to be important system / smalltalk ones.

Running the Contralto emulator (Alto II XM 2KB CROM 1KB CRAM).
