Languages evolve. Gestures, being a type of language, also evolve. The meaning of words and gestures are not fixed in time (or geography) to have only one meaning for all time or all places or all circumstances.
I don't care whether or not Helen Keller worshiped the devil or was influenced by occultist signs and messages. Helen Keller did not invent American Sign Language (ASL), so to say that her religious beliefs inserted devil signs into ASL is misleading. As far as I know from my 3 semesters of ASL in college and a brief Wiki search, Thomas Hopkins Gallaudet borrowed from the French sign language and many other places and created ASL.
The "I love you" hand sign is a composite of signed letters I, L, and Y.
I take issue that the very common ASL sign for "I love you" taught even to infants before they can talk is misconstrued to represent only a sign for "I love the devil", like in the image of the hand in a circle with a blue background in the posting above.
There is a difference between the "devil" sign (index and pinky up, thumb holding two middle fingers) and the "I love you" sign (index and pinky up and thumb out, while middle fingers are down.)
Fans of Texas football are known to give the "longhorn" sign, which is no different than the "devil" sign. This is the meaning I take from seeing former Texas Governor Bush or his daughters give the "longhorn" sign.
If you ever injure your hand (or study ASL), you'll recognize that the hand only has so many positions, so context in ASL determines meaning.
Here is a case in point relating to the "devil" sign. I recall a popular sign being resting the forearm of one arm on top of the forearm of the other arm such that wrists were to elbows. The hand of the arm on top would make the "devil" sign while the other hand would alternate repeatedly between almost a fist and fingers spread wide. Did it mean devil? No. It meant "bullshit".
I'm not saying that world leaders don't make Satanic signs to cue others.
What I'm saying is that all occurrences of a particular hand position do not equate to devil worship. So be careful in what you read into things.

Before you go calling me wrong on the correct way to give the Texas Longhorn hand sign, it would be nice if you would google "Texas longhorn hand sign" to be sure.
What do you get? Images of hands with the index finger and pinky up and the middle & ring fingers held by the thumb... just like the "diablo" sign. You don't get what you describe.
The sign that you mention with the pinky up and thumb out and three middle fingers down, that is sort of a Hawaiian for "Aloha". Again, just google "Hawaiian hand sign" and you'd see.

Dear Vatic: Their is a vast difference in the University of Texas Longhorns (who use the "hook em horns" sign), and the AGGIES of Texax A&M University (who have no hand sign that I or my wife know of that would be similar to the devil sign or the hook em horns sign- my wife would know, as she and her family attended A&M). Languages evolve. Gestures, being a type of language, also evolve. The meaning of words and gestures are not fixed in time (or geography) to have only one meaning for all time or all places or all circumstances.
I don't care whether or not Helen Keller worshiped the devil or was influenced by occultist signs and messages. Helen Keller did not invent American Sign Language (ASL), so to say that her religious beliefs inserted devil signs into ASL is misleading. As far as I know from my 3 semesters of ASL in college and a brief Wiki search, Thomas Hopkins Gallaudet borrowed from the French sign language and many other places and created ASL.
The "I love you" hand sign is a composite of signed letters I, L, and Y.
I take issue that the very common ASL sign for "I love you" taught even to infants before they can talk is misconstrued to represent only a sign for "I love the devil", like in the image of the hand in a circle with a blue background in the posting above.
There is a difference between the "devil" sign (index and pinky up, thumb holding two middle fingers) and the "I love you" sign (index and pinky up and thumb out, while middle fingers are down.)
Fans of Texas football are known to give the "longhorn" sign, which is no different than the "devil" sign. This is the meaning I take from seeing former Texas Governor Bush or his daughters give the "longhorn" sign.
If you ever injure your hand (or study ASL), you'll recognize that the hand only has so many positions, so context in ASL determines meaning.
Here is a case in point relating to the "devil" sign. I recall a popular sign being resting the forearm of one arm on top of the forearm of the other arm such that wrists were to elbows. The hand of the arm on top would make the "devil" sign while the other hand would alternate repeatedly between almost a fist and fingers spread wide. Did it mean devil? No. It meant "bullshit".
I'm not saying that world leaders don't make Satanic signs to cue others.
What I'm saying is that all occurrences of a particular hand position do not equate to devil worship. So be careful in what you read into things.

Once again you are wrong. The Long horn sign is the little finger and thumb with the three middle fingers down and a twisting motion with both. There is no way to mistake the two, they are clearly different.

Brueke's entire message comes down to one simple point: A hand sign may be used by some people to signal Satan worship, but it doesn't mean that every time someone uses that sign. Besides, the aggie/Satanist sign involves the display of two fingers. The abbreviation for "I love you" involves three: the pinkie, the forefinger, and the thumb.
I took a year of weekly sign language lessons, and I've taken masters-level courses in linguistics. I seriously believe that the three-finger abbreviation for "I love you" is a far more recent invention than the three-gesture "I love you" adapted by Thomas Gallaudet. It goes as far back as the 1980's, but I don't think it goes as far back as Gallaudet.
You did, however, make a valuable contribution by pointing out that Christian Zionists have been known to hold up two--not three--fingers while praying on television. When I was in high school, that gesture was used to mean, "Go to hell." That's close enough to make me wonder about those phoney preachers.

Before you go calling me wrong on the correct way to give the Texas Longhorn hand sign, it would be nice if you would google "Texas longhorn hand sign" to be sure.
What do you get? Images of hands with the index finger and pinky up and the middle & ring fingers held by the thumb... just like the "diablo" sign. You don't get what you describe.
The sign that you mention with the pinky up and thumb out and three middle fingers down, that is sort of a Hawaiian for "Aloha". Again, just google "Hawaiian hand sign" and you'd see.
Context, Vatic, context. That same "Aloha" sign is used for "chillin'" and possibly has hidden gang meanings, just like the Texas Longhorn sign might have different meanings if faced in or faced out, up or sideways, as part of gang identification or not.
But for you to get the "Texas Longhorn" sign wrong, for you to misattribute Helen Keller as the founder of ASL and for bringing in some sort of a "I love the devil" sign is as "I love you", means you don't know as much about these hand signs as you think, and that if you don't know context of WHEN they were given, you won't truly know their meaning.

American Action Report: While anecdotal information such as you and Bruecke have provided, is useful and interesting, it still does not explain the international reach and use in public on TV and film of the use of that sign by leaders in all those different fields.
Also go back and relook at the drawings and notice the satanic handsigns of ancient times include the one with the thumb out and each of the configuration of hand signs has a satanic meaning.
Remember also that the thumb out for the satanists means "I love you Satan". So, yes, that is what it means....its just a direct message to satan that he is loved.

Their is a vast difference in the University of Texas Longhorns (who use the "hook em horns" sign), and the AGGIES of Texax A&M University (who have no hand sign that I or my wife know of that would be similar to the devil sign or the hook em horns sign- my wife would know, as she and her family attended A&M). Just found a pic from probably the 30's showing satanists using he exact same hand signal in a satanic ritual with the pentagram and circle which, now that I think about it is also the symbol on the Israeli flag isn't it? Hmm, the entire country is a fan of the long horns. LOL
Thank you anonymous, I guess if anecdotal evidence can be given by one side, it can certainly be given by the other side, so I thank you. I was told that before by a Long Horn graduate that I know here in the town I live it and he also told me they are not the same and he is the one who showed me how it works, which is what you were saying the hook em horns.
I also did google it and ended up on the Texas long horn site and read from some writer about how it came about.... then I checked out the writers bio summary and guess what.... LOL he is Director of the texas u heritage society which is a massive national neocon ORGANIZATION that helped put the New American Century think tank paper PAX AMERICANA in distribution and promotion of it calling for just such a 9-11.
So apparently after GW made all those hand signs all over the place in 2000, they decided to put up a picture that looks like the one GW used.
My friend showed me, that because the horns on a long horn are different than any other cattle, the signal is the thumb and small finger swivelled back and forth, which then looks more like a real long horn cattles horns. I did see GW do that one time, but was not aware then of what he was doing and the difference.

American action Report - there are three illustrations up there and two show the thumb holding down the middle fingers and the other one is with the thumb out which is the "I love Satan" symbol. So there are three messages one with each one you use.
