I think Neil and Dylan have a bet on... who can release the record with the ugliest cover in 2012. I think Neil may well have just won!

Can't wait to listen too it though. I love the long Crazy Horse song/jams!

Very exciting to see such long tracks, which means we are in for a jamming treat.

It will be interesting to see how they pack 27 minutes + 36 seconds onto one side of vinyl, which is a little over the time, what it is recommended in order to maintain good quality music on one side of a vinyl.

On Americana, the longest side of vinyl was just short of 19 minutes.

Or, will this track be edited on the vinyl version ?

Good grief, that is horrendous. I saw it somewhere else and thought it was some sort of awful fake. Bloody hell, Neil.

I have to say, I find it pretty offensive that this album is entitled psychedelic pill. Neil of all people should know that drugs kill people.

The Stones win the prize with "GRRR!"

Looking forward to this. The shorter songs will provide some breathing room.

I struggled with prescription drug addiction for many years through my twenties and into my mid-thirties. Countless pills of all sorts through the hazy years should have killed me many times.

But I never saw a Crazy Horse pill...lol...

I will take two or three on October 30th though - no problem. This album release warrants a full on relapse for me.

It looks like a 5mg valium...

I like the cover. Particularly, the font. The starscape could look a little less like a photograph, but what can ya do.

As far as comparing it to the cover of Dylan's new album, I don't think there's a contest. Dylan's cover is downright hideous looking.

The circular sky and star opening on the front, inside of the lettering, is about the size of the cd or vinyl disc inside rotating around the Crasy Horse pill which looks to obvioulsy mimic the full moon, probably representing the times of the recording sessions.Trippy fuel man, and actually no drug is necessary, only the hippie dream mentality of taking the ride here on the cosmic train.

I thought the cover may be one of those visual illusion thingies. So I stared at that damn dot for three minutes without blinking. When I shifted my gaze to a blank wall, I almost got run over by a crazy horse. Totally psychedelic...

@wardo & matthew - yeah, we don't get all the Dylan comparisons???

@SONY - good metaphors. one can only imagine what the reviews will come in like.
It's gonna be a long strange trip as everyone time travels back to the '60s.

@Joe - watch out for the brown stuff.. specifically not too good we hear.

Not a huge fan of the cover, kind of looks too much like it was done on Paint or something.

But at the end of the day, the album cover is a pretty minor thing for me.

I'm super excited but $87 for three LPs?! Seriously?! Come on Neil... tell me you can do a little better than that?!

You wouldn't believe how often I hear people grip about the prices of Neil's vinyl... I try to justify it... but this time I dont think I can. Archives Guy, can you explain the price? Is it super limited?

9/11/2012 09:09:00 PM

Anonymous SD said...

Maybe he has his vinyl pressed somewhere that does it higher quality than most other artists do?

9/11/2012 09:25:00 PM

Anonymous Anonymous said...

He does, at Pallas in Germany I believe, which is the finest pressing plant in the world... and I'm sure it will sound absolutly amazing...but still that price is exorbitant. I bought a brand new triple LP for $20 last week.. a new release. I have no doubt I will be buying this...but $90 is still a lot!
I can understand if Neil is only having 5000 pressed at Pallas... but I'm sure AT LEAST 10,000-20,000are being done.
Again, I can't wait for this...and I've spent more on less... but still. If it was $70-$75 I wouldnt complain.

Blogger SONY said...

I remember overhearing a 'deal' conversation on price one time, and the nearly uniformed customer says -

"I thought you could do better than that".

and the reponse was -

"of courseI I can do better than that. I can go a lot higher"

Think it over. Aint nobody else putting out Crazy Horse records and tours. Better juggle some nickels and dimes, or what ever else you got to get to it. Maybe you can phone a friend?

Thanks Grungeman & others - yes, it all seems weird to be complaining about prolific output.

One wonders whther they were around back in the day when it seemed like it would be a year between any new Neil news, albums, tours, etc.

So we're now living in NY's golden age and not all are appreciative.

Which is Ok, but begs the question, so what would make you happy? If you were NY, what would you do?

oh, btw, did we mention that Neil's headlining a free concert in Central Park to benefit Global Poverty? Or Farm Aid? Or the Bridge?

"To give a love,
you gotta live a love.

you gotta be "part of"

I'm gonna get the CD. It's 20 bucks for two CDs. In all their moaning about the cost of the vinyl, nobody seems to have mentioned that. I'd say it's a good deal.

And you know what, you can bitch about pricing ad infinitum, but not only do you have the option of paying a decent price for the double CD, but that 90 bucks for 3 (yes, three) records is the cost of quality. Quality musicianship, quality sound, quality packaging.

If this was by some ho hum modern band, it might be a too expensive, but let's look at the whole picture here. Look who we're talking about, what they represent to us, and the package they're delivering.

You're only gonna spend that 90 bucks one time, and look what you get for it. It's not affordable to some (I couldn't afford it), but I'd say it's worth it considering the overall context of what it is.

I have the Americana pressing and it is easily the highest quality vinyl I own - is it worth the cost? That's an individual decision.

My one gripe with the vinyl is that my record player skips when I hit a bump in the road.

Hey, GrungeMan / Thrasher,

I only pointed out was that in my opinion both the new Dylan and Neil albums have ugly, amateurish looking covers. Which lead to me wondering if they had bet with each other. It's just my opinion and a light hearted comment. It doesn't matter.

I'm absolutely over the moon that both Neil and Dylan are releasing new material - and good stuff at that!!

It did strike me as ironic that GrungeMan moans about 'same old negatives, childish whining and blaming!' with an entirely negative, whining and blaming comment.

Hey-ho, I'll keep my mouth shut in the future.

Peace,
Dan

Funny that aside from looking like a "full moon", the pill also looks a lot like Mother's Little Helper! Surely Neil doesn't advocate popping valium to listen to the Horse, does he?

I bet that Elliot convinced Neil to drop Sheppard Fairey's paintings from any sort of stage production after it's been proven that Mr. Fairey plagiarised his Obama worship poster...

Or Neil just dropped everything and moved on as he's known to do...

I don't think it's childish to have a critical opinion. I just want this to be a really superior, well-thought-out Crazy Horse album. I think forums like this are more interesting when it's not all 'hail the mighty Neil, thank you for your singular genius' in any case. Maybe it's a good sign that he's giving a Crazy Horse record a new look. Maybe it's not. We're only kicking it around.

Dan,

I didn't find GrungeMan's comment to be whining or moaning. Looked to me like it was just pointing out the amount of complaining that has gone on by fans in recent memory. Didn't come across as someone whining about it, but pointing out it's just whining.

Thos,you're a p@#$y.
You should live in a closet with Ronald Regan. Ignorance is no excuse for spreading misinformation.

Psychedelics aren't drugs, and they don't kill people. They enhance perception. But now users have to live in fear of being arrested by people like you.

Get a sense of humour you muppet - my comment was written as satire of a previous discussion we had on this forum regarding Americana and whether we should or shouldn't censor certain songs or lyrical themes because they may potentially cause offence.

9/15/2012 01:18:00 PM

Blogger Thos said...

Mind you, seems a bit disingenuous to suggest that it is me spreading misinformation while you claim that phsychadelics aren't drugs and then suggest they aren't harmful!

Try telling that to Syd Barrett and Brian Wilson etc.

uhh, how about, Syd Barret was a Schizophrenic. As in genetically predisposed.

But I'm sure you think LSD caused him to go mad, right Thos?

Syscrusher, I can't even be arsed with this debate since it is obvious that we shalln't agree. Suffice to say that my generally sarcastic comment aimed at no-one in particular was not intended to criticise anyone's drug-taking habits, and that even though you and I clearly have different opinions on this issue, I haven't compared you to Nixon at any time.
