I would ask is authoritarianism always masked as right wing or does it sometimes mask as center or center left? This election season in the United States and the month leading up to it and the forced enclosures of businesses and schools, does not seem so democratic or liberal from what I have seen. The uproar surrounding those closures in several places also seems justified in light of this analysis on authoritarianism.

I do recall Altemeyer explained that something like 80 percent of authoritarians are right wing and 20 percent are left wing. This is why he termed it Right Wing Authoritarianism. I personally do not think that the resulting RWA label is the best term, since it immediately turns off the majority of those who need to do some self-contemplation.
