People seem to misunderstand; Democracy is not a type of government it is a way to decide what type of government people have.

If people actually read JJ Rousseau, "Mr. Democracy", they would know that he wrote it for about 1500 people in the French Assembly. Even he did not write for a mass of people. He wrote for the aristocracy of his time. Marx wrote for the people, though.

Plato and Aristotle make a joke of democracy. Plato said it was the second worst kind of decision making method their is. Aristotle said democracy never escapes the grasp of oligarchy and aristocracy.

J. Schumpeter said that democracy is riddled with propaganda and ignorance. It is merely a method for developing what type of government there is.

"widely disseminated falsehoods ("death panels")"

Simple economics says that if you make scarce resources available to all for free, that they will be consumed rapidly and without regard to their scarcity. "Death panels" (fear mongering and polemicism) will easily translate to "rationing by a government bureaucracy"...making it in fact not a "falsehood", as claimed by the author.

Healthcare is always rationed. The government bureaucrats will be physicians instead of insurance salesmen bureaucrats. People understand that.
