I agree with you that Marx is a social scientist, and I think it's impressive how he talks about public health. I believe that Nowak's comparison of Marx and Weber in terms of the idealization and de-idealization method is a good way to bring Marx back into modern social science. However, Weberians do not read Nowak and realists in sociology do not discuss the topic of idealization...
