Unless the liquorice is too hard, I love to eat it plain but your comment that it had a molassey taste got me thinking that maybe it would be interesting in a cupcake - had never even thought you could melt it so was quite fascinated with these cakes

OMG! I just sent this to my mom. She loves loves black liquorice candy! Ha, she is going to get a kick when she sees this. I know by tomorrow afternoon she'll be on the hunt for the liquorice so she can make these.

This is so interesting! Wouldn't these be fun to make for the boys birthday party!
Are you using real liquorice, as in the stuff we Dutch (and scandinavians) love? I think the sweet version not the salty ones?

Yes you are right the liquorice si the sweet kind, not salty.

Johanna, it didn't melt smooth, but did turn to mush and this was fine to beat into the cake batter.

What an interesting concept...its got me thinking...when you said it was a molassey taste...I thought of doing a flapjack with liquorice mixed in with the golden syrup!
