These look wonderful Katie! I love doughnuts and I haven't had one in ages. I know exactly the smell of doughnuts cooking in the street - that is a nice memory of the italian lady, funny how smells evoke memories.

The idea of deep fat frying scares me to death but these little babies look sooooooooooo good I may need to pluck up some courage very quickly!

yum fresh donuts - I turn my nose up at ones in the shops too - my favourites are made at our queen vic market - in fact they seem to be fried with the jam inside because it is always boiling hot

I am curious about your food syringe - hope you show it to us properly in one post - I have one I call an icing gun that I don't use enough and am wondering if it is similar - tried piping some thick icing last weekend and it wouldn't work but my gun didn't come with a large plain nozzle and I am wondering if I could order one

I too think that store bought doughnuts are not great. these look so much better and must taste awesome. Ha the last photo looks great even though it looks like a bloody mouth :)

That looks really really good! I agree on the storebought variety which tends to be really bad but I have never tried making my own doughnuts... These look really good though...

Making doughnuts is one of those things I've always wanted to do too. Your jam-filled ones especially look like heaven!

Whenever we'd go to the country fair when I was a kid, the highlight would be getting a little bag of fresh, powdered sugar doughnuts. I still get a bag today :)
