thanks for posting this. as i read it i could immediately relate, remembering my own not rape that happened just two years ago, when one of my professors (harassed, touched un-wantedly?) me.

it makes me feel less alone.

Wow.
It's sad how prevalent and widespread not rape is.

When I was in college, my ex-best friend who was 24 began dating a 16-year-old. Inevitably they slept together. What's worse is that the family was fine with the relationship. I pleaded with him to wait until she was 18 but he acted insulted that I would question his character. He wasn't too pleased when I pointed out that he committed statutory rape.

A few years later I was working as a reporter and covering a schoolboard story and it was released that a girl had been getting harassed by a male student. Now this young lady was a straight-A student and typically straight-A students don't get into trouble unless there's a reason. Turns out she had been sexually assaulted by the boy but when I tried to run the story, the schoolboard, the police department, the director of schools and my publisher killed the story.

So while this essay was powerful and difficult to read, based on my experiences even as a man, I'm not surprised.

PTG, I'll ask Latoya Peterson at Racialicious. I don't think she'll have a problem.

Thank you for reprinting this, and allowing me to read it. I cannot read all 100 million blogs.
I wrote about this, and another post I read this weekend about rape. The results are here.
The bottom line is that people need to have respect for each other.

PTG,
Latoya says it's ok, just as long as she gets a link back to Racialicious out of the deal and she's recognized as the author of the post.
