I didn't think about it that way until you pointed out that calling celebrities transsexuals has been the new diss. More interesting I think is the day has come where America seems so threatened as to be afraid that they will encounter a transsexual and not even know it, or be "fooled." It seems like a passive attempt to have the last laugh.

Angelica,
It's been here ever since Christine Jorgenson stepped off that airplane from Denmark in 1953.
and it's sad that our country has sunk to this level.

Back in the depths of the Depression we had a president who stated 'the only thing we have to fear is fear itself'. Now we have a president that deploys fear regularly as a political weapon.

But you're on to something. The stereotype of transwomen being 'men in dresses' is a grossly inaccurate one.

I noticed this "insult someone by calling them trans" trend lately. It is annoying. The best thing we can do is call them on it.

As for Ann, she's a self-hater whether she's trans or not. Everyone with any semblence of brain matter knows it. Soon she'll go the way of Dr. Laura Schlessinger. When was the last time we heard from her? Never!

Peace,
Dharmashanti

I have been reading you for months, but didn't comment. As a non-transgendered woman, I can only say the reason people say a woman they don't like is transgendered, it is probably because then we don't have to claim her. She's not a woman, not a man, she's something different. I'd like to hear your thoughts, though, on the Zarf Zoey story this week--attending a transgender support group.
Also, there was a story recently about a transgendered man trying to come out as a woman in FL and was fired. I was hoping you'd write about it. If I can find it again, I'll send you the link.

Here's a link to the article about the Florida firing for transgender: One interesting point is that it is more acceptable to be gay than transgendered.
