i CAN'T STAND having anything under my fingernails... it's one of my biggest pet peeves. maybe that's why i've not cultivated my green thumb.

i didn't read any more of your post, because i was too busy feeling like there was dirt under my fingernails!! so if you said anything that might have ended my visits to *everything pink,* i am blissfully unaware...

You are I were meant to be friends because I agreed with you on everything. I am exactly the same. I wash my hands when I need to...never just because. And now that Dallin, 2, is potty trained, instead of chasing him around a public restroom and then making sure he uses soap and doesn't splash me or then go on to touch something else gross, I just use my Purell. And really I like it that way.

Yeah! Someone who is NOT a germaphobic! I always joke that I'm doing my kids a favor and buil;ding up their immune systems.

Not that washing hands isn't imposrtant...it absolutely is. But my goodness there has to be a balance!

Thanks for your candid honesty. :)

I'm a germaphobe! I wasn't until I had preemie twins 7 years ago and the Dr's talked to me about the germs that were out there everywhere. I'm trying to be less of a fanatic and a few years back when I could tell that my phobia was taking over (I would get anxiety at the thought of using a public pen at the check out) I actually made myself eat a french fry without sanitizing my hands 1st. Can you believe I survived to even talk about it? I'm better than I used to be in my phobia, but I'm still a heavy Purell user.

I just love you Kristi! I don't ever wash my hands just because. Really, ever. And don't take a kick to the gut for a SPT topic- what you are doing seems to work just great!

great fingernails by the way! I have to admit that i am a lot like you. Nothing against the germ-o-phobes, but I think being too purell happy isn't doing anyone any favors.....except maybe your psyche. I was kid number six, and my mom admits that I got the least attention when it comes to that kind of attention. Funny thing I am by FAR the healthiest in my family!!!

If I've been out somewhere like the shops and have been touching lots of handrails and lift buttons etc, then the first thing I do when I get home is wash my hands. Purely because I think the root of the common cold lies therein, and the common cold is EVIIIIIL! Hahaha.

I also love a nice 'lemony freshness' smell on my hands. Mmmmm!

Love your windowbox. Is that 'ornamental cabbage'? Our gardening guru here in the UK, Monty Don, said the other week that slugs and snails hate it if you sprinkle a good wodge of sawdust on the soil - it's too abrasive on their jelly bellies and dries them out. Urgh! Monty's v.into organic, non-chemical gardening and pest control. I don't know if your boxes suffer from slugs and snails, but just in case they have a penchant for cabbage...!

Have you looked at your computer keyboard lately? Do you have a white keyboard? Is it grimy? If it is a black keyboard, take a white rag and spray it with windex and wipe the keys. Eeewww.

Handwashing is overrated, especially if you're trying to wrangle children to do it.
My motto..."Be wise, Sanitize".

Works just as well!

You know who is a HUGE hand washer?? Erik. Weird huh?? He can't eat at pot lucks, doesn't allow anyone to bring meals to his home, and washes his hands ALL THE TIME. He had some bad experiences on his mission.

I am usually just like you (probably because I hardly ever get sick) but since Miriam goes to the bathroom every 20-40 min. we are both washing our hands at least once an hour. I probably haven't posted about this but Miriam has a very tiny, very weak, very easily confused bladder.

Liked your post. I do keep purel gel on hand, but as I get older I do try and keep the germs away. I think I just feel grimey and need to wash my hands, that and I keep nice smelling soap. I love things that smell nice.

If I passed a sink and it had been awhile since washing my hands, I probably would stop to wash them, but I'm a little crazy about clean hands so oh well.

I can't imagine anyone reading this post and deciding not to read your blog anymore, what in the world?

I love your blog, and I don't think I will ever stop reading it. I think that hands just need washing, more often than that. I am also into like the hand sanitizer. I don't think I am as bad as Melissa. I just don't like the idea, that my hands touch my face and mouth way too much. What else do they touch? As a teacher, I think I would get more germs if I don't wash my hands more often, then just when I visit the bathroom.

I kind of think the same way you do, however, my sister-in-law told me this week that my little 4 yr. old nephew has an extreme case of herpes in his mouth and can't hardly eat and she thinks that he got it from the drinking fountain at Wal-Mart. So now it makes me think twice about where Savannah's hands have been.

kristi you are funny. I think sadly the same thing...when I am the one helping them down there...but, my son, will say WHY DO I HAVE TO WASH THEM IF I DID NOT TOUCH ANYTHING...SO then I go, well, you are right...but it is the perfect opportunity to make him do it....

If I would have thought of it, my SPT would have been like this! Of course after the bathroom, messy cooking and the like. But really I'm like you, I would gross some people out. LOVE this post Kristi, I'm in the same boat as you!

Germphobe Queen commenting here. I have the purell keychain too. Hand sanitizer is actually a great replacement and my kids love it (the blue raspberry kind by germex at Wal-mart is fun) Anyway...I may not have a full food storage but by dang I have sanitizer like you have ribbon :D. Also...not that this would entice you but "Wet Ones" have single packet wipes that I carry in my purse and put in the kids lunch boxes. I am not a fanatic about the cleanliness as I am about not having sick kids. It doesn't make me want to stop reading :D Great picture!

I don't like having anything under my fingernails, so i am always washing my hands -- not so much the germ factor as the dirt factor. I never did like finger painting as a kid -- guess that says it all.

You are too funny! I am a major handwasher - but I will still think highly of you and still continue reading! I love the invention of purell - those public bathrooms are scary - so a quick squirt of that miracle liquid is all it takes!
Loving your new planted boxes! Can't believe that Fall is here! Crazy!

I am laughing about this Kristi! I definitely wash my hands, but I wouldn't say I am overly obsessed with hand washing. I guess I wouldn't fight my kids in a public restroom either. I'd just hand them a wet wipe, they like that better anyway!...and you don't have to worry about recontaminating yourself turning the water off, getting the paper towel or touching the door knobs!

Glad to find someone like me! I agree I don't wash my hands more than I need too! though I usually use purell after I get in the car or come home from Wal-mart, don't know why but after touching that cart etc.. I just feel like I need to wash my hands!

you're so funny!

sometimes I just feel like I need to wash my hands and it totally makes me feel cleaner! my mom brushes her teeth like 8 times a day and I dont' feel the need to do that, so I guess it just depends on your personality.

and i always wash my hands after getting back from the grocery store - before and after unloading! is that weird?

I have fingernails that many ladies PAY to have; long, and the tips are pure white. However, no matter how often I clean them, it seems as if there is always some kind of substance under them the next time I happen to check. I work in my own office, not in the dirt, or such...even when I awake in the morning, there it is! Anyone have any ideas as to why?
