I still have my smurfs from when I was little and my kids love them. I think about getting a hold of some cartoons for them.

When I was called to be the nursery leader I started taking all the old toys my boys have outgrown but I can't throw away. Imagine my popularity when I produced an entire Thomas train set or generations of match box cars!

I used to be a thrower, but once I saw the delight saving can bring I'm not sure what to do with myself!

It's funny you mention this, as only the other day I was considering buying Erin an old Major Morgan from eBay - but I was scared she'd look at it with disdain. I mean, it's so BASIC compared to what kids have nowadays! But Major Morgan brings back such memories for me. Oh, I could witter on for ages on this subject...!

I'm desperate for my girls to read the books I read as a child. I can't wait for Erin to read Emil and the Detectives and the Malory Towers series of books. I'll be devastated if she shows no interest in them!!

Yup. A marble racer. Calvin's dad built it for our kids and it is a standard part of our home...all the neighbor kids love it and since no one else has one it's like a new toy everytime they come visit. Obnoxiously loud as the marbles race, but it sure does keep kids entertained.

I keep everything! Well, not junk, but I keep all of the kids "good" toys--you know what the real good stuff is! My dad just recently gave my son (his only grandson after four granddaughters) all of his toys from when he was a little boy. They are soooooo cool, old tractors, lincoln logs, trucks, and vintage toy guns, etc. I think one day maybe my kids toys will be classics like that, too!!

I still have all my cabbage patch dolls and stuff. My mom kept a lot of our toys for the grandkids. I have already told Jason that I am keeping some stuff for the same thing.

I keep way to much stuff also for the "just in case" situation.

I have the cradle my uncle built for my dolls and we also have Josh's rocking chair from when he was a child. It is just tiny and Ryley fits in it perfectly.

Kristi..I had to laugh at your post today, because I have been throwing away right and left. I get a natural high from purging and taking to the good will. I love how different we all are..guess that's what makes the world go round! Glad that your girls love the doll house :)

I know what you mean about the reinventing of toys. I am always about to get rid of something when someone starts playing with it again. It sure makes for alot of "stuff" though. I am not sure about toys from when I was young, maybe some dolls at my parents house, but books I have plenty of from growing up.

I swear they used to make cooler better toys when we were kids. I have several toys I can't part with at my house even though my kids could care less about them. I have that full fisher price sweet streets mat and all. I think Taylor played with it once. Sometimes I find myself tempted to play--my thought what a cool toy! Guess I am a kid at heart.

I can't even think about letting anything go at this stage in my life - I just put toys away and pull them out later - pure joy to rediscover something that was purchased 10 years ago for another child. We have ONE item from my husband's childhood. The original Fisher Price Little People Barn. Still moooooo's! Love it!
How fun that they have such a fun dollhouse to rediscover!

I wish Ihad any childhood toys or anything. Dave's mom didn't keep anything either, but I found the bear he had as a kid. I am so glad we have that atleast.

My neighbor has all the old Fisher Price Farm and garage and everything that was her son's and now her grandson plays with it. My problem is that I don't know what toys will be the ones that we will WANT to have when the girls have kids and what will just be junk?

I totally remember the cowboy and cowgirl!! Ok I love the sesame street toy, my Aunts and Uncles had this toy...and it was my favorite to play with. I want one for my kids. My mom has given me all of my barbies, stuffed animals, the All American Doll collection. Ryan has his Heman castles and all the guys that go with it. Luke and his friends love them. Too fun!

My mom has saved lots of our toys from when we were kids and has them out for the grandkids to play with when they come over. It's pretty fun for them and I like seeing them in use too.

Liam discovered PEZ last night. He is taking it to show and tell. We also have some star wars figures, and the boys like those too. He likes the R2D2 and C3PO you gave him. I also got some Masters of the Universe toys at McD's once, and Liam is fiffy on those. Asher threw Skeletor in the toilet.

The one toys I think that will definitely live out to the next genereation are the Thomas train toys. They are built to last. I have decided to only buy the thomas cars for presents (I get the smaller ones that run on plastic tracks not wooden tracks). I got these two trains for Asher and Liam the other day. Their names are Bill and Ben. They are both yellow and have only one distinction (one says Bill and one says Ben). I told Liam that Bill is his and Asher gets Ben... 3 weeks later, Liam somehow knows that Bill is his.

I hope the new Transformer movie will cause a mass re-release of transformer toys. I want a Bumblebee! Bumblebee was a yellow robot who transformed into a Yellow Volkswagon Beetle.

I'll tell you what gets my goat - these 'heirloom toys' that are built to last through the generations - like beautiful rocking horses that cost upwards of £700. At that price, who is really going to let their kids and the neighbours kids clamber all over it and scuff it all?

Nothing beats 'homemade' when it comes to things like that. A go-cart, a tyre-swing, home-made dolls' clothes...that sort of thing.

I am a little people fanatic. I love the antique ones. They actually sell for quite a bit on ebay. I have a friend who found a ton at a garage sale. She bought all of it for 12 dollars and sold it for 150. Keep a hold of that one.
