really? and where is this reaction ? have not seen any. This shows the power of religion-superstition: you can torture-kill people but the religious fanatics - ready to do the same- will bother about a few cartoons (not very good taste, but certaoinly not harming anybody). Wake up! Torture is practised daily in arabic and asian countries, and the condition of people in prison is a problem in certain european countries as well, even if it does not get to that point. You do not need to be a muslim or a Xstian to be disgusted by those photos. You just need to be a citizen. Moral does not come out of religion. Other way around. Actually, it had not been for a very american lawyer acting in a very anglosaxon liberal way we would have never seen them. And they have not been publishe to provoke (does the arguing ring a bell?..) but to stop those things happening and for the soldiers at higher level to be held responsible.

It is a good point that the American system is largely self-policing over time. Anger and outrage over the many extemist Muslim attacks on American citizens, is bound to spill over in poor choices made by American soldiers and citizens. You can only poke us in the eye so many times, before a reaction will occur.

The difference is ... America corrects itself, these acts become public, and changes in behavior are initiated to conform with our ideals (which remain unwavering). Can Islamic nations claim anything remotely the same? Where was the Islamic outrage over Saddam's torture and murder of Iraqi citizens ... not by the dozens ... but by the thousands?
