Such a good question! I'm going to have to think on it a bit. Nothing is popping into my head immediately, but I think that is more due to my horrible memory then getting crappy gifts I didn't want!
I'm going to have to ponder this one as well, but I do remember walking up to my front steps and hearing weird electronic noises inside, only to discover the astonishing sight of my parents playing the Atari cartridge Air-Sea Battle on our brand new Atari 2600. What made this astonishing was that it wasn't a holiday and there had been no overtures about this purchase; it just happened.
We already had a non-cartridge Pong style game but this was the big time. For a while we got all of our cartridges at Save Rite in East Providence.
I never got a Barbie dream house but on the flip side my dad made me the greatest doll house ever so I guess I never cared. I was horrified to discover after returning from a 4 year move to Japan, that my dad had torn up my old doll house and used it for kindling.

During this time of the year many of us celebrate the birth of Santa. JSP posed an interesting question to me last night; what Christmas/birthday present did you always want when you were a kid but never received? In the era of Ebay and Amazon it is easy to acquire those missing treasures, however back in the day we all had our wishlists that occasionally went unfulfilled. Mine is pictured above, what's yours? Conversely, what is the best gift you ever received that you never thought you would get? Mine is pictured below.
"Did someone say wish?"

"For a while we got all of our cartridges at Save Rite in East Providence."
That would explain, "Math Fun".

that same atari console was probably our best gift ever as kids, too. don't remember the gifts that got away, but there must have been plenty.
