just last night i was talking with a friend about old shows and Car 54 and the Munsters came up in the conversation.
apparently when Car 54 was done, Fred Gwynne and Al Lewis still had two years on their NBC contracts. they weren't happy about this, so they signed on to do a stupid sitcom about monsters that they figured wouldn't get picked up after the pilot anyway.
it turned out to be the most lucrative thing either of them ever did, but it also meant that Fred Gwynne couldn't get cast as anything other than Frankenstein characters for years.
