Yeah, how the hell did that get past everyone and make it into the movie? Or maybe the kid was such a fucking pain in the ass (and the shots were so complicated with all the smoke and everything) that they just figured, "Ah, the hell with it; that's the best we're going to get."
I favor the latter theory. It looks to me like he had an itch to scratch, and the "gesture" was him unconsciously making scratch motions while trying to stand still. Little perv.
