Bruce Campbell plays a a washed-up, unlikeable B-movie star named Bruce Campbell. Meanwhile, in the faraway mining town of Gold Lick, some teenagers are messing around in a Chinese cemetery trying to get laid, and one of them (BC's biggest fan) unwittingly unleashes the protective deity Guan-Di, who begins to slaughter the residents of the town. The teen BC fan comes up with the idea of getting Bruce Campbell to help them out, and the adventures ensue, though BC doesn't realize this is for real until he's face to face with Guan-Di.
This was an entertaining little movie for anyone who loves Bruce Campbell, and maybe not for anyone else. Much of the (plentiful) humor of the movie is derived from Campbell's portrayal of his "real" self, with many in-jokes and references. The violence is spoof-violence (lots of beheadings) but there is a reasonable body count. With a little more emphasis on the horror component this could have been an excellent comedy-horror hybrid like Shaun of the Dead, which got both components right, but My Name is Bruce clearly favored comedy over horror, perhaps somewhat to its detriment. Still, a fun watch for the BC fans among us.

I watched this one earlier this year. I never understood Bruce Campbell's die hard cult following and this movie didn't help.

You don't? The Evil Dead movies aren't enough for you? I'm a little surprised, but only a little.
Me, I'm totally in the BC fan club, and I will check this out someday. But probably not this year.
