So it was absolutely incredible on the IMAX. I can honestly say that it was worth the $20.59 ticket price.
I think The Force Awakens did the unimaginable job of flushing the bad taste of the prequels out of my mouth. You can really pretend they never happened and you wouldn’t miss a thing. I will watch it over and over again. My criticisms remain:

1) I feel that it renders the whole happy ending of Jedi pointless. I would have preferred to see the bad guys slowly claw their way back into power. From the very beginning of the movie it feels like the Universe is once again run by an evil dictator.

2) Kilo Ren should have put his mask back on for the final fight. It’s like Spider-Man fucking 3 all over again. Revealing his face in the scene with Han was fine but that should have been the only time you see it.

3) I really wish they hadn’t killed Han. I understand that they were trying to elicit hatred towards Kilo Ren but I didn’t think it was necessary or even surprising. I would have preferred that Han lived the rest of his days on a beach sipping margaritas.

4) As plenty of people complained, they borrowed too many plot points from the original. I can certainly live with it but c’mon, another f’in Death Star? Really?

Agree with absolutely everything EXCEPT number 3, only because I would guess it was the only way they could get Ford to do it at all. I wasn't surprised either. Sad but not surprised.

The saddest moment is a couple of scenes later when Chewie is quietly whimpering. I can't help but picture him waking up the next morning, realizes that his buddy is dead and then just starts to sob.

I look forward to contributing to this discussion when I'm not elbow deep in Lego.

I agree with your points as well but let's get some thoughts on who Rey's parents are...hmmmm?

The fan theory is that Rey is obi-Wan Kenobi's child although it would appear that she's Luke's child...

Leia seemed to almost know her, could it be the whole sister/brother thing again?

I actually had no problem with the movie whatsoever, I thought it was perfect and far exceeded even my high expectations! I am sad that they killed off Hans Solo, but I'm sure Harrison Ford insisted upon it. He has wanted to kill off the character for many years. Also, although it borrows heavily from a new hope, I think it was necessary to bring a new generation into the Star Wars Universe. This film can be seen as a gift to past fans but also away for new fans to discover The franchise .

I watched Star Wars in 3D over the weekend and enjoyed it just as much, if not more, than the first time! The depth of the 3D really makes the film pop.
