I always think of Monty Python when I hear about the Spanish Inquisition. "Amongst our weaponry are such diverse elements as fear, surprise, an almost fanatical devotion to the pope..."
I love this movie...Lance Henriksen can play a creepy Torquemada very well. Its hard for me to watch movies on the Spanish Inquisition without quoting Mel Brook's History of the World, part 1. Maria and her husband Antonio attend the "Auto De Fe" and she decides to speak out against it. She is thrown into jail, accused of being a witch. Antonio begs for her release, but gets mad at the Torquemada, and gets thrown in jail as well. Maria gets tortured and has her tongue pulled out, but the Torquemada has a soft(or hard?) spot for her. He keeps hearing her voice in his head and it torments him, so he flogs himself to rid of the thoughts. He then decides to use his newest contraption, The Pendulum, on Antonio...but Maria has other plans! Directed by Stuart Gordon, of course this movie would have Jeffrey Combs in it..He's one of my favorite actors! He plays Francisco, writing down confessions. I recommend this movie to fans of Poe and Lance Henriksen![Image]He looks all warm and snuggly [Image]Oliver Reed plays the Cardinal..and ends up as the Cask of Amontillado
