"GM surely would have publicized any interview in response to the movie, he said."

That sounds like a fairly ironclad argument, although the fact that he talked to Roger about other stuff kind of bolsters a comment I heard over the weekend: that while Moore is good for a lot of reasons he can be a sloppy documentarian. And unfortunately, any amount of sloppy is a target for the opposition to scream about.

And the opposition will be all too quick to point out something that discredits Moore, rather than addressing the accusations in the film.

Right. If they can spot one bit of fuzziness, the whole thing must be wrong and everything is actually fine.

I wonder how much opposition will come up against Sicko. Issues like Bush's war policies or gun control will be opposed by huge chunks of the population, whereas nearly everyone is dissatisfied with the current state of healthcare. Or am I wrong about that?

You're not wrong about that. The public is:

1) anti-Bush
2) anti-war
3) pro gun control
4) pro-abortion

Etc. etc. etc.

You'd just never know it from listening to the straight press.

think the current public attitude is:

1) Anti-Bush, only because Bush left no other option.

2) A feeling of outrage, guilt, shame and denial about the war - and their initial acceptance of it.

3) Pro-Gun control but doesn't really give a shit because there are more important things on the line...

4) Pro-abortion.
