When I was working in children's books, a man who looked exactly like Santa pitched a book to me. Since he had the jelly belly and white beard year-round, he thought he could land the Santa gig for the Macy's T-day parade and kept citing how much more the kids would like it when there was a "real" Santa on the float.
Seriously, he must have said that twenty times. He was trying to get some sort of rights lock on Santa Claus, for pete's sake. It was like that Batman comic in which the Joker tries to make a ton of loot by copyrighting the alphabet.
