I hope 2 is better than 1. Hellboy the movie definitely had something special, but ultimately it plays a bit flat. This would be a great franchise to pull a Star Trek/Blade/X-men trick with #2.

Understanding why ESB is considered the best movie of the group, I still like SW better and wouldn't include it on this list.
I don't think T2 is better than Terminator, either. T1 might have the poofy, synthy 1984 thing happening, but I think the story's better. I think that b/c in T1, they run and the Terminator keeps finding them, fulfulling his function. In T2, after the first encounter, the T1000 just keeps going places he knows they're going to be. Not the same thing.
And I was watching some bits of Spiderman 2 during lunch...I was gonna include that but JPX beat me to it.

I totally agree about the Terminator movies by the way. T2 is technically accomplished but its apologist vibe (the is a "good" terminator) violates the spirit of the franchise. These guys get older or have kids or whatever and start pontificating about morality, trying to turn their shoot-em-up franchises into some kind of grand sermon. I remember Cameron in 1991 describing T2 as a movie about "peace" -- give me a break.
The more I thought about it the more I agree with all the Terminator comments. I also forgot how much I hate Eddie F.'s young John Connor character (and his acting). It's an example of a film that was ruined for me because a precocious kid was thrown into the mix.
Yeah Rambo was better than First Blood.

It's a compendium of a lot of elements that they were not able to address in the first one, because the first one was kind of a slave to the backstory and who Hellboy is, how we come to find him, etc., etc. Now they can kind of branch out a little bit and get funky with it and hit some of the other colors that existed in some of the other comic books. I'm not sure what the title "The Golden Army" implies about the story, but if the similarly titled films in my DVD collection are any indication, it's probably about a urine fetish."
