Ever attend a baby shower or a birthday where the cake is beautifully decorated that it looked good enough for a wedding? I envy the creative people who can make those cakes. They just look so much fun to make.

My curiosity drove me to look for tips online to see what makes the best icing for decoration. I thought it would be a great time to start learning. I found two commonly used mixes in buttercream and cream cheese.
Buttercream Icing
1 pound sweet unsalted butter
1 pound icing fondant
1/2 tsp vanilla
Use a flat beater or mixer to cream the butter. Add fondant gradually while beating.

Cream Cheese Icing
10 oz of cream cheese
14 oz of icing fondant
7 ounces of shortening
With a flat beater, beat cream cheese while adding icing fondant a little at a time. Mix until smooth, add shortening, mix all together until smooth and light.
