hartford-dc train is awesome. i thought there was a direct way out west through upstate new york + michigan (though less frequent).

nyc-dc market is pretty hot right now, with lots of bargain buses.

a folding bike might have been nice, but it sounds like you didn't need it that much. congratulations on learning all that stuff about the amtrak

I totally agree, Sleeping in the coach seats is just miserable! It won't make me sleep, although I love train ride.

you can`t beat the train from Boston to Richmond. I just wish there were more trains into and out of Hartford. I have no problem sleeping on the train as the clickety clack of the steel on steel is quite soothing to me.

@ Kanishka - Yeah, there is a more direct route through upstate NY, but for some reason it didn't work with my schedule.

I'm planning to ride from Pittsburgh to DC in the spring along the Allegheny Passage / CO Canal. Will definitely take advantage of Amtrak to facilitate this one way tour.

Scratch Amtrak for the Pitt to DC bike tour. Can't get a bike from Hartford to Pitt on the train. Will be looking at Greyhoud instead.
