I did not know this. Watched the Bendix version as a kid. Good choice; welcome back.

I've never seen any of these episodes. I listened to RILEY on radio with Bendix and later watched him in the TV series. We got our first set in late 1953.

Thanks for that in-depth history of the show. I remember the radio show well and Digger's "Guess I'll be shoveling off." May have seen the movie, but don't think I ever saw the TV show; TV didn't come to the wilds of Nebraska until the mid-50s. For a while only one or two networks--on a good night. Interesting that the radio and TV GUNSMOKE shows ran at the same time for many years, with different casts.

As an OTR fan, I've enjoyed the radio version and may have an episode on cassette somewhere. I knew of the Jackie Gleason version, but not the later Bendix version of the TV show. Thanks for this!
