Introduction I am a student of art history. Art provides a historical frame of reference for sure, but it is also important as a cultural unifier and as a means of expression for its viewer as well as its creator. Art can have meaning solely through the opinion of the viewer. Although much is written about much of the art we see, the written word is far from the only, and perhaps the best, way to appreciate art. We base the meaning and the importance of art on the personal experience we bring to it. There is a seemingly infinite amount to be learned in this discipline, and I want to encourage and inspire others to embrace the study and excitement of it all. This blog exists to stimulate the minds of other art history students and anyone else who reads it -and even to engage them in dialogue about the art presented. What’s more, I wanted to seize the opportunity that today’s technology allows to air my thoughts, however random, about issues that a student of art history confronts as well as about particular works and genres of art that move me. I hope you enjoy it. Please feel free to comment!
