Introduction | Paula is a native Newfoundlander whose love of the province shows in her work. She was born in Buchan’s one of six children. Paula’s work provides color, warmth and texture in her wall art of Hooked Rugs. Flood is mostly a self taught Rug Hooker and creates her own designs and works with wool yarn and recycled t-shirts. The love for rug hooking was instant and binding after taking one beginner course she was hooked! Flood has always loved working with fibre and also enjoys crochet, knitting and cross stitch. At the age of thirteen she was a member of the Women’s Institute in Springdale. Her Newfoundland roots are deep and her ancestors arrived in Woody Island, Placentia Bay in 1773. Summers were spent in Woody Island and Winterton, Trinity Bay. Summers full of hiking, berry picking, putting fish on the flakes, sitting on the daybed by a warm fire with the smell of homemade bread and learning to knit with her mother are some of her fondest memories. Flood loves local lore and the rich history of the province and sees a rug design in every cove, salt box house, church, and stage that she visits. Flood is married with two children. |
