Introduction | Of the biblical allotment of three score and ten I have lived only three of them more than a bicycle ride from one of the Great Lakes. I grew up ten blocks from Lake Erie in the (once Irish/Italian ghetto, now newly-hip) "Near West Side" of Cleveland. I can still cycle to the Milwaukee lakefront in an hour and a half; but, a round-trip has always been more than I would (noror ever did) attempt. -0- I'm a "...somewhat combative pacifist and fairly cooperative anarchist," after the example of Grace Paley (1922-2007). -0- I'm always cheerful when I pay my taxes (having refused--when necessary--to pay that portion of them dedicated to war). -0- And I always, always vote. |
Interests | The Great Lakes. Peak Oil research. Landscape & Gardening Baking Irish Soda Bread and Scones. |
Favorite Movies | One particular favorite: The Duellists. Ridley Scott's first (1977) film. A scene-by-scene, precise rendition of "The Duel" |
Favorite Music | Afro-Cuban; Faure's Requiem; Shostakovich Symphony No. 7 in C Major "Leningrad"; Charles Mingus's "Goodbye Porkpie Hat"; "Be-bop-a-lula" My advance directives for a funeral suggest playing some of each, I should make a mix-tape so I can check out how it will sound coming out of a boombox on a bluff somewhere overlooking Lake Michigan (not to mention whether it might be too long, vis a vis: "Let's get to the drinkin'."). |
Favorite Books | My first: When I was ten-almost-eleven. Our librarian at the Edgewater Branch of the Cleveland Public Library reached under the checkout desk and handed me a new and different card--An adult library card--all made out with my name on it. And she led me a table with recent accessions... told me I would probably like this new best seller--"The year the Yankees lost the Pennant". That's my favorite: how the hated Yankees got beat AND the real skinny on Faustian bargains. |
Come up with some possible band names for your group that features a washboard and a styrofoam tuba.
