Occupation Minister
Location Midland, MI, United States
Introduction I graduated from the Meadville Lombard Theological School in Chicago in May 2010 and received Preliminary Fellowship in Unitarian Universalist ministry in September 2010. I began serving as the settled minister of the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Midland (Michigan) in August 2011, my new home. I am (in no particular order) a skeptic, agitator, religious atheist, mystical humanist, teacher, preacher, pacifist, freethinker, rationalist, dork, curmudgeon, husband, father, historian, futurist.
Interests Reading, writing, preaching, gaming, World War I posters, vinyl records, cigarette cards, old board games.
Favorite Movies My absolute favorites are black and white political suspense dramas from the late 50's, such as Seven Days in May, Manchurian Candidate, Fail Safe, Advise and Consent. I love most science fiction, some horror (especially old school and George Romero), and some musicals. I can watch Humphrey Bogart and Lauren Bacall anytime -- To Have and Have Not, Key Largo, The Big Sleep, Dark Passage.
Favorite Music Almost everything, but mostly rock. My favorites include The Alan Parsons Project, Jimi Hendrix, the Doors, the Beatles, Steely Dan, Genesis, Peter Gabriel, CSN, and Evanescence. Lately, I've been exploring European goth prog metal, like Within Temptation, Lacuna Coil and Nightwish. My current spiritual practice involves listening the free jazz, particularly late Coltrane.
Favorite Books Other than theology and ministry (which is most of my reading nowadays), I like science fiction (especially Robert Heinlein), horror (H.P. Lovecraft and Stephen King), and histories of Nazi Germany.
