Introduction Nan Mahon is a journalist, columnist, and freelance writer. Her first book, Hard Times and Honeysuckle, is a family anthology about growing up poor in rural Texas. Many of the stories are taken from her former column in the Elk Grove Citizen, A Nanosecond in Time. Mahon now writes a monthly column for the Sacramento Bee Neighbors and is on staff at Senior Magazine. Her first novel, Pink Pearls and Irish Whiskey, will be out this spring. The author has garnered several journalistic honors, including the California Newspaper Publishers Award for Feature Story of the Year. Mahon is a graduate of California State University, Sacramento, and volunteers for several local arts organizations. She is a committee member for the Focus on Writers conference and a board member of Friends of the Library, as well as a commissioner for the Sacramento Metropolitan Arts Commission. Married to her real life hero, Mahon has lived in Sacramento 30 years and is working on her third book.
