Introduction My art is born out of an instinctive desire to create. As a young child I would make many of my own toys from household objects. It is this ingenuity that is the foundation of my work today. With imagery from my childhood, I build visual analogies that are part of my symbolic language. Through a synthesis of intuitive mark making and calculated visual associations the elements intersect creating intertwined narratives. This fusing of youthful optimism with cynical doubt makes the work both playful and dark. While revealing clues to their story the somewhat contradictory themes open up the images to multiple interpretations. Familiar subjects become guideposts to ambiguous circumstances. Through this array of interpretations, I hope to answer questions about the world and myself, which are woven into the themes of each piece.
