If mud is dirt plus water, what is clay?

Clay is still dirt plus water. Normal dirt particles are irregularly shaped, which is why mud falls apart. Clay particles are flat, like little shingles or flakes. This is why clay clumps together & has such a denser texture than regular mud. Hot damn, I'm SMRT.
