| Introduction | Film Critic ARMOND WHITE currently writes for National Review and Out Magazine. He was previously the arts editor of City Arts (2011-2014), the lead film critic for the alternative weekly New York Press (1997-2011) and the arts editor and critic for the weekly Black Newspaper The City Sun (1984-1996).
In 1992, his essay on Michael Jackson’s Black or White music video, entitled “The Gloved One Is Not A Chump,” won the ASCAP-Deems Taylor Award for Music Criticism. In 1994, 2009 and 2010, he was the chairman of the New York Film Critics Circle. He has served on the jury for the Sundance Film Festival. Since 1993, his music video presentations have been shown in film and video festivals all over the world. A graduate of both Wayne State University and Columbia University, Armond White is also the author of three books: The Resistance: Ten Years Of Pop Culture That Shook The World (Overlook Press 1995), Rebel For The Hell Of It: The Life Of Tupac Shakur (Quartet Books—UK, Thunder’s Mouth Press—USA 1997) and Keep Moving: The Michael Jackson Chronicles (Resistance Works, WDC 2009). |
