| Introduction | I am an avid family historian with a special interest in Military history. I was born in England and grew up with an awareness of WW1 and WW2. My great-grandfather (whom I knew) and his brother both fought in WW1. My great-grandmother lost two brothers in WW1. Then there was my grandfather who was in the Royal Engineers in WW2 was at Dunkirk, the D-day landings and was also in India. As a young girl I can vividly remember weekend visits to the Royal British Legion in Isleworth where my Grandad and his mates would talk about the war. It was privilege to accompany my grandfather to Dunkirk for the Dunkirk Veterans yearly return. It was a moving and enlightening experience. I began researching family history about five years ago and have been at it ever since. I live in Auckland, New Zealand and married to a New Zealander who also has a wealth of military family history. We have four children. There are war memorials throughout New Zealand nearly one in every small town and many in the main centres. This project is my personal way of commemorating those who gave the ultimate sacrifice.
