| Introduction | I am a writer and historian. I used to research the history of Venice, which is the setting for my first two books: Pistols! Treason! Murder!: The Rise and Fall of a Master Spy (Johns Hopkins 2009) and Five Wounds: An Illuminated Novel (Allen and Unwin 2010). Nowadays I mainly write fiction.
