Introduction A scratch. A mark or line drawn to signify a starting place. To start from the scratch is to start from a beginning. To reverse course, and begin again despite the outcomes of previous attempts. A starting place where one might (or might not) draw advantage from previous experience or wisdom. Just months after my first son was born, I finished a doctorate in sociology from Brown University, where I studied health, society and the environment. I have since taught seminars on communities, justice and environmental health at Tufts University. I currently serve on the National Board of Directors for the Science and Environmental Health Network (www.sehn.org). I am now a mother of two and at work on my first book (with Vanderbilt University) on the burden and legacy of persistent pollutants. Thank you for stopping by. Your comments and ideas are most welcome.
