Introduction | Dr. Paz Maya Olivérez holds a Ph.D. in Educational Policy from the University of Southern California and a B.A. in Sociology from the University of California, Santa Cruz. During her doctoral studies, Dr. Olivérez investigated issues of college access, persistence, and financial aid for low-income first-generation college-goers. Her dissertation examined issues of college access and financial aid for undocumented students who aspire to attend college. She also developed The College and Financial Aid Guide for AB540 Undocumented Immigrant Students, which has been disseminated to thousands of undocumented students and advocates throughout California and the U.S. In 2007, Dr. Oliverez founded Futuros Educational Services, a non-profit organization that aims to provide support for college-bound undocumented students. In addition to working with Futuros, Dr. Oliverez is currently Student Success Coordinator at CSU Dominguez Hills where she runs a student retention program for incoming freshman. She has also taught in the Rossier School of Education at the University of Southern California and worked as a researcher in the Los Angeles Unified School District. |
