Introduction My mother always said my father was like a salmon swimming upstream. We were in New Mexico, working for the Bureau of Indian Affairs, and all my dad wanted to do was get out and run a charter boat, smell the salt air and catch salmon. Eventually he made it back to the Northwest, ran that charterboat and eventually died on that boat (happily I think) 20 years ago. In a way, we're all swimming up stream, to find our niche in life. I started out as a biologist, fell into journalism through the backdoor, and am now trying to merge the two, while working as a content director at a local university. In this blog, I'd also like to give voice not only to the salmon, but to the species in my corner of the world that are all swimming upstream against global warming, habitat destruction and poaching, simply to survive. Okay, enough heavy stuff. I'm also interested in watercolors (you'll see a few here), my pets, staying sane while raising my 14-year-old daughter and keeping up on the news (will always be a news junkie) via my TV assignment editor husband, Gary.
