Introduction I was Chief Economist from 1979-2007 at Western Asset Management, a Pasadena-based, global manager of fixed-income portfolios for institutional clients. I now enjoy keeping up on economics, markets, and politics from my condo overlooking Calafia Beach on the Southern California coast, where I'd like to think that I'm immune to Wall Street groupthink. Married for 52 years to my wonderful Argentine wife Norma, with four children and six grandchildren (five boys and one girl). I'm a believer in supply-side economic theory, as practiced by my mentors, the late Jude Wanniski, Art Laffer, and Larry Kudlow. John Rutledge is another of my mentors, from the days we worked together at Claremont Economics Institute in the early 1980s..
