Introduction I am a professor in the Department of Politics and Government at the University of Puget Sound in Tacoma, WA, where I teach courses in U.S. politics and public policy and conduct research on environmental politics and policy. My book, American Environmental Policy: Beyond Gridlock (co-authored with Chris Klyza of Middlebury College) was published by MIT in 2008 and in a new edition in 2013. It won the Lynton Keith Caldwell Prize of the American Political Science Association in 2009, as the best book published on environmental politics and policy in a three-year window. My recent papers focus on environmental policy retrenchment and, most recently, the politics of hardrock mining in the United States.
